PFO

Hello all.  We just wanted to try out this blogging thing on for size, so we decided to make our guinea pig subject PFO, or PreField Orientation.  We are in Mississippi for two weeks as we prepare to take off on the adventure of our lives (so far!).  PFO is a big conference that all of the newcomer teachers in NICS are required to go to before taking their first assignment in the mission field.  While here, we have and will be listening to speakers talk about the challenges and benefits of the transitions we are about to make.  We have been learning about third culture kids (TCKs), or children who grew up in more than one culture, and how we can go about teaching them and giving them the best we have to offer.

So far, we have met some really beautiful people and befriended a few couples.  It is really exciting to be here with all of these other people who are just as nervous and excited as we are.  We have frequently found ourselves having the same questions as other first year teachers about the culture we are about to enter into.

Just to sum up what we've learned here so far:  Things move fast, there's a lot to learn, we have a big challenge ahead of us, and southern food is really good.  Take care and we will talk to you soon.
